Katy Texas is a fast growing suburban community located approximately 28 west of downtown Houston in the area covering portions of Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties. Access from downtown Houston is provided by Interstate-10. The City of Katy is located on the north side of Interstate-10 and was in incorporated in 1945. The City of Katy Texas is commonly referred to as Old Town Katy or Old Katy and is improved with a quaint town square and City Hall. Katy Mills Mall is a large regional indoor outlet mall located within the city limits of providing area shoppers with major brand outlet stores.
The vast majority of the area is located outside of the city limits in the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction of the City of Houston. The area is populated by numerous large neighborhoods and master planned communities including Cinco Ranch and Firethorne. Cinco Ranch is one of the largest master planned communities in the Houston area with a population of approximately 20,000 people. Firethorne is a recently developed master planned community located between Katy and Fulshear within close proximity of the Westpark Tollway. The Westpark Tollway gives area residents easy access to the Galleria area.
Area Residents have quick access to the Energy Corridor area of Houston located at the intersection of Interstate-10 and Eldridge Parkway. The Energy Corridor contains the headquarters and regional offices of many large multi-national oil companies and their partners including BP and Shell Oil. The majority of Energy Corridor workers live in this area.
