About Opal Hamilton

According to the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District website, Opal Hamilton dedicated 25 of her 36 years in education in CFISD.  Mrs. Hamilton was selected as Teacher of the Year in 1969.  Mrs. Hamilton was a Vocational Adjustment Coordinator with CFISD, as well as the Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent.  Mrs. Hamilton retired in 1988. Mrs. Hamilton and her husband, Williams, of 63 years, have 2 children, Lonnie and Deborah.  Mrs. Hamilton attended Wayland Baptist College for her Bachelors of Science degree and University of Houston for her Masters degree.  Mrs. Hamilton served as President of the Gulf Coast Council of Exceptional Children and was one of the pioneers that helped establish the foundation for the Special Olympics Program in the Houston area.  After retirement, Mrs. Hamilton became the interim Preschool Director at Houston’s First Baptist Church where she attended since 1977.  Mrs. Hamilton also served as Supervisor of Alternative Certifications Interns for the State of Texas.  Mrs. Hamilton passed away on January 24, 2013.
