Willbern Elementary School is located in Cypress Fairbanks ISD and serves the Houston area in northwest Harris County in the 77064 zip code.  The school’s full name is T.A. “Bubba” Willbern Elementary.  It was opened in 1992.  Willbern Elementary is located next to Harvest Bend the Meadows subdivision.  It is situated at the intersection of Goodspring Dr and Legacy Park Dr.

About T.A. “Bubba” Willbern

According to the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District website and the Houston Chronicle, T.A. “Bubba” Willbern was named after a dedicated employee who worked in CFISD for 40 years. Thomas Austin Willbern Jr. was born in Kenedy, TX and grew up in Houston.  Mr. Willbern attended the University of Houston where he was a member of the first football team.  Mr. Willbern began his career in education as a head coach in Alice, TX.  In 1952 he accepted an assistant coaching position at Cypress Fairbanks High School.  Mr. Willbern became the head basketball coach in 1954 until 1962 and in 1955 he became the head football coach.  After receiving his Masters in Education, Mr. Willbern went on to hold positions as Administrative Assistant, Personnel Director, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Associate Superintendent for Personnel.  Mr. Willbern retired from CFISD in 1992.  Mr. Willbern was active in local government and was elected and served as a Jersey Village City Councilman from 1967-1975.  Mr. Willbern was a Jersey Village Volunteer Fire and First Aid person and was also elected as a member of the Jersey Village Charter Commission.  Mr. Willbern and his wife, Patricia, of 65 years have 3 children, Thomas III, Michael, and Patricia.  Mr. Willbern passed away in 2016.
