Mason Creek Park Hike and Bike Trail, owned by Harris County, in Katy, west of Houston, follows Mason Creek and its eventual release to a pond serving as stormwater detention and a wetland habitat.   Visitors come to enjoy the view and surrounding grassy areas and trees along a paved path.

How to Find Mason Creek Park Hike and Bike Trail

The park is located in Katy Texas off Porter Rd between Morton Ranch Rd and Franz Road, approximately 1 mile west of the Grand Parkway and 1.5 miles north of I-10.  The park’s paved hike and bike trail extends west along the creek where it shares a parking lot with Katy Park at its’ southern border.  The trail continues east from its’ Porter Road parking lot around a stormwater detention pond.   Link to Park Map

The 76.5 Acre park presently has 2.35 miles of paved trail open to both foot and bike traffic.   It is bordered by neighborhoods on all sides, but plentiful parking allows commuters to enjoy its’ amenities as well.   The County is considering the possibility of future picnic and playground areas in the park.  The fact that the trail ties to nearby Katy Park, where an abundance of picnic areas and restroom facilities exist, may slow the need for such construction in the Mason Creek Park natural setting.

The Mason Creek stormwater detention project, the “pond” adjacent to Mason Creek Park, has recently been enlarged.  It was originally designed and constructed by the County to serve as an example of a more natural channel design.  Leading by example, the County has attracted area developers to build with water quality features and greater aesthetics in mind.   The beauty of the wetlands area attracts visitors from the surrounding neighborhoods while improving water quality.
