The 232 acre park Paul Rushing Park, built in the Katy Prairie, boasts a wetlands habitat of interconnected lakes with boardwalk wildlife viewing areas all surrounded by paved hike & bike trails. In addition to the natural setting, softball & cricket fields with 2 gated dog parks attract visitors from surrounding NW Houston.
How to Find Paul Rushing Park
Front Entrance to Paul Rushing Park The large 232 acre park is located in Katy TX, in west Harris County. The park is located in the Katy Prairie known for its wetland habitat. Access to the park is located at the corner of Katy Hockley Rd and Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd, approximately 6 mile south of US Hwy-290 in the Cypress area, 8 miles North of I-10 in Katy and 3 miles west of the newly constructed Grand Parkway. Paul Rushing Park Features
The park amenities include paved walking trails surrounding a lake/wetland habitat with bird & wildlife observation boardwalks, picnic areas, softball fields, cricket fields, 2 dog parks, a playground and restrooms. The park has recorded 202 species of birds that are noted by the Houston Audubon Society. Park hours are from 8:00 am until 10 pm, 7 days a week. One of the 2 gated dog park areas (“Beverly Kaufman Dog Parks”) is reserved for smaller dogs, 20 lbs and under.
Boardwalk Wildlife Viewing area at Paul Rushing Park The park’s namesake worked as the Harris County Precinct 3 Engineer for over 3 decades. His efforts in the design of this specific park project focused on compliance with environmental requirements so as not to negatively impact the existing habitat. The park is owned by Harris County. The clubhouses and a majority of the softball fields are leased and may be used with written permission from Katy Girl’s Softball Association.
