Houston Realtor — Your Guide to Houston, TX Real Estate
Houston is the fourth-largest city in the country and the heart of a metro of nearly eight million people — energy, medicine, space, a world-class food scene, and hundreds of distinct neighborhoods. I’m Kevan Pewitt, a Houston Realtor and the broker behind Houston Prime Realty, and this is your starting point for the market, the areas, and the move that fits your life.
The Whole Metro
From the Inner Loop to Cypress and Katy, I work across Greater Houston — so I can help you compare areas honestly instead of guessing from listing photos.
Local Detail
School district, tax rate, HOA dues, MUD districts, and flood history change neighborhood to neighborhood in Houston. I put those differences in front of you before you fall for a floor plan.
Start to Close
Whether you’re buying or selling, you get one point of contact from the first showing through the closing table — with a plan you can hold me to.

Houston TX Realtor — Working With a Local Broker
Houston Prime Realty is a full-service brokerage, and I represent both buyers and sellers across Houston and the surrounding metro. For buyers, that means helping you compare areas honestly, find homes that fit before they hit the big portals, and negotiate the contract. For sellers, it means pricing your home to the actual recent sales nearby and marketing it to get it sold.
Houston is too big and too varied to shop blind. The difference between two neighborhoods ten minutes apart can be a different school district, a different tax rate, a different flood picture, and tens of thousands of dollars in price — a lot of which never shows up on a listing site. My job is to put those differences in front of you plainly, then handle the contract and closing so the deal actually gets done.
How buyer representation works in 2026:
Since the National Association of REALTORS settlement took effect in August 2024, a buyer’s agent’s compensation is agreed up front, in writing, before we start touring. I’ll walk you through exactly how that works on our first call — no surprises, no fine print.
The Houston Real Estate Market
Houston’s housing market is one of the largest and most resilient in the country, powered by a famously diversified economy — energy, the Texas Medical Center (the largest medical complex in the world), the Port of Houston, NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and more than twenty Fortune 500 headquarters. As of spring 2026, the median single-family home across Greater Houston sells around $345,000, and homes are taking a little longer to sell than they did at the peak — inventory has grown and buyers have more room to negotiate, while well-priced homes still move.
That’s a metro-wide median across an enormous range, though. Prices run from condos and townhomes in the $200s to multimillion-dollar estates in River Oaks and Memorial — and the real story is area by area, which is what the rundown below is for. Market figures per the Houston Association of REALTORS (HAR) May 2026 report; contact me for today’s numbers in your area.
Areas of Greater Houston
Houston is best understood by area rather than as one giant list of neighborhoods. Here’s the quick orientation — a few signature communities in each, with dedicated guides rolling out and links to the suburb pages already built.
- The Inner Loop & Central — the close-in, walkable heart of the city: The Heights, Montrose, River Oaks, the Museum District, Midtown, Bellaire, and West University. Historic bungalows, new townhomes, and high-rises, with the shortest commutes downtown.
- Memorial & West Houston — Memorial, the Energy Corridor, and Spring Branch: established, wooded neighborhoods close to major employers along I-10 and the Katy Freeway.
- Northwest Houston & Cypress — Jersey Village, Tomball, Spring, and the fast-growing master-planned communities of Cypress (Bridgeland, Towne Lake, and more) up the US-290 corridor.
- West & Southwest — Katy & Fort Bend — Katy (Cinco Ranch, Cross Creek Ranch), Sugar Land, Fulshear, and Missouri City: top-rated schools and newer master-planned living along I-10 and the Grand Parkway.
- North — The Woodlands & Lake Houston — The Woodlands, Spring, Kingwood, and Atascocita: forested, amenity-rich communities along I-45 and Lake Houston.
Not sure which area fits? Tell me your commute, budget, and school priorities and I’ll point you to the right ones — and send what’s for sale there now.
Houston Schools
Greater Houston is served by dozens of independent school districts, so the right schools depend entirely on where you buy. The City of Houston is mostly Houston ISD — the largest district in Texas — while the suburbs run their own highly regarded districts, including Cy-Fair, Katy, Spring Branch, Fort Bend, Klein, and Conroe ISD. Zoning is set by the specific property address and districts rezone as they grow, so always confirm a home’s campuses before you rely on them.
Living in Houston — Lifestyle & Amenities
Houston packs in big-city culture without big-city prices. The Museum District holds nineteen museums within walking distance of one another, the Theater District is second only to New York City in the number of theater seats in one place, and the food scene is among the most diverse in the country. Sports fans have the Texans, Rockets, Astros, and Dynamo, plus the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo — the largest rodeo in the world.
Green space runs through it all: Hermann Park and the Houston Zoo by the Medical Center, Discovery Green downtown, the trails of Buffalo Bayou Park, and Memorial Park — one of the largest urban parks in the country. Add the Galleria for shopping and an international airport hub, and it’s easy to see why people keep relocating here from all over the world.
The Sam Houston Monument at the entrance to Hermann Park.
Mount Rush Hour — the giant presidential busts at American Statesmanship Park.
Miller Outdoor Theatre at Hermann Park — free seasonal performances.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science in the Museum District.
