Looking for something to do in Houston this weekend? I keep this guide updated every Friday so you can find the best of what’s happening around town in one place — no endless scrolling required. The big World Cup crowds have moved on, but the city is still packed with free concerts, art, and family-friendly fun. Here’s what caught my eye for the weekend of July 10–12, 2026.
Weekend of July 10–12, 2026
Summer Symphony Nights at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The Houston Symphony brings its outdoor summer series to Hermann Park on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30, with a program spanning Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and a few contemporary pieces. The hill is free and open to everyone, so grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and settle in under the stars. Showtimes and free covered-seat tickets are at Miller Outdoor Theatre.
Dream Con 2026. One of the city’s biggest pop-culture weekends takes over the George R. Brown Convention Center Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Founded by RDCWorld, Dream Con blends anime, gaming, cosplay, and music, with a full gaming hall and live tournaments — and this year Issa Rae is doing a Main Stage fireside chat. It’s ticketed, so check passes ahead of time on the Dream Con website.
Space Cowboys vs. Albuquerque Isotopes. Minor-league baseball is one of the easiest wins of the summer, and the Sugar Land Space Cowboys are home all weekend at Constellation Field. Friday’s game brings a Texas Flag Jersey giveaway for the first 2,000 fans plus a postgame Fireworks Friday, so it’s a fun one to build an evening around. Tickets and start times are on the Space Cowboys schedule.
Texas Nights at River Oaks District. On Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., River Oaks District hosts a laid-back evening of live music from Texas artists, with snacks and appetizers and a relaxed, dog-friendly vibe. It’s a nice, low-key way to start a Saturday night out, and it won’t cost you a thing. Details are on the River Oaks District events page.
Soccer Summer: Kicks and Coffee at Discovery Green. If you’ve got little ones, this one’s a winner — Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Discovery Green hosts free youth soccer activities and games downtown while the grown-ups grab coffee from Coffee Fellows. It’s a great way to burn off some energy before the afternoon heat rolls in. See the lineup at Discovery Green.
Bat Chats at the Waugh Drive Bridge. For something a little different, head down to the Waugh Drive Bridge on Friday from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m., where the Houston Area Bat Team helps you spot the quarter-million Mexican free-tailed bats that stream out from under the bridge at dusk. Bring a blanket, keep your eyes on the sky, and you’ll see a genuinely wild Houston tradition up close. Learn more at Buffalo Bayou Partnership.
Sunday Concert Series at Discovery Green. Cap the weekend Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a free outdoor concert at Discovery Green, complete with food trucks and plenty of room to spread out a blanket. This is the last one in the summer soccer concert run, so it’s worth catching before it wraps. Details are at Discovery Green.
Always a good time in Houston
If none of the above fits your weekend, a few Houston standbys are open and easy any time. The Houston Museum District packs 19 museums into a walkable stretch, several with free admission days; the Houston Zoo in Hermann Park is a reliable family win, especially if you go early to beat the heat; and the Urban Harvest Saturday Farmers Market is a local favorite for breakfast and fresh finds. Any of them is worth the trip when you just want out of the house.
Thinking about calling Houston home?
One of my favorite parts of being a Houston broker is how much there is to do here — every neighborhood has its own pace, its own weekend rhythm, its own personality. If a weekend spent out in the city has you wondering where you’d actually want to plant roots, I’m always happy to walk you through the areas that fit how you like to spend your time. Start anytime on my home-buying page, or just reach out and we’ll talk it through.
