Kleb Woods Nature Preserve
Kleb Woods Nature Preserve is a Harris County owned park just northwest of Houston in the relatively rural, but emerging, city of Tomball. The park’s 133.5 Acres were once part of the Kleb family-run farm. The Klebs are known to be some of the earliest German immigrants to the area. The original Kleb home, barn and farming equipment can be seen along one of the park’s many walking trails. When back taxes landed the final Kleb heir (Elmer Kleb) in court, the property was obtained by the County thru collaboration with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Trust for Public Land. Elmer was allowed to live on his beloved wooded property until his death in 1999. In keeping with the unique history of the property, the County offers history discussion groups and German language classes on a regular basis. Call (281) 357-5324 to inquire about these and other free programs. These programs are run at the parks’ Nature Center by friendly, helpful park employees.
