My number one tip for home buyers is the simplest one: hire an experienced Realtor to represent you. Buying a home is smoother, less stressful, and far more likely to actually close when the person guiding you has done it hundreds of times.
Why experience matters more than you’d think
It’s tempting to work with a friend or relative who just got licensed, or a part-timer who’s closed only a handful of deals. But buying a home is one of the largest financial decisions you’ll ever make, and the details are where deals are won or lost. An experienced agent knows how to write an offer a seller will actually accept — and how to manage the dozens of moving parts that come after.
Getting your offer accepted
As a listing agent, I see it constantly: offers from inexperienced agents that are incomplete, poorly written, or missing required documents. In a competitive market, sellers pass right over those. The most competitive, properly drafted offer is the one that wins — and that usually comes from an experienced Realtor.
Managing the contract to closing
Once you’re under contract, the clock starts. The option period, earnest money delivery, inspections, repair negotiations, financing approval — each has a deadline, and missing one can cost you money or the home itself. Staying on top of all of it is exactly what an experienced agent does for you.
