According to the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District website, Mr. & Mrs. Lamkin devoted their time and hard work into CFISD. Mr. Lamkin served nine years as principal at Fairbanks Elementary before he was appointed as Superintendent of the district in 1947.  Lamkin Elementary traces its roots back to 1884 when a small one room schoolhouse, known as Big Cypress Schoolhouse No 2 District 6 was built.  As the years passed and the community grew, the elementary and high school students were provided separate facilities.  The elementary was renamed to Lamkin to honor Mr. & Mrs. Lamkin.
