Bud Hadfield Park is Cypress’s disc golf destination — 54.5 wooded acres at 12405 Telge Rd, about a mile north of US-290, home to the 18-hole Texas Army Trail Disc Golf Course that players have rated one of the Houston area’s favorites. It’s a Harris County Precinct 3 park that doubles as flood-control green space along Cypress Creek, directly across the road from Telge Park — the two make an easy one-stop outing.

What you’ll find at Bud Hadfield Park

The disc golf course is the main event: 18 holes with concrete tee pads, built by volunteers in 2010–2011 and kept up ever since with the local disc golf community — each hole is named for a battle or figure of the Texas Revolution, a nod to the Texas Army’s 1836 march along this stretch of Cypress Creek (the historic Burnett homestead campsite is right across Telge Rd in Telge Park). The course listing on UDisc puts the main layout at par 61 and nearly 6,900 feet, winding along the creek and over the flood reservoir, with the trees doing the defending. It still hosts PDGA-sanctioned events through the year — UDisc carries the current calendar.

Beyond the course: a nature trail through the woods, picnic tables near the parking lot, creek and wetland fishing, and genuine wildlife habitat. The park is open 7 a.m. to dusk, with the gate locked overnight. Plan ahead on one point — there are no restrooms and no drinking water; Telge Park across the street covers both.

Who was Bud Hadfield?

Frederick “Bud” Hadfield (1923–2011) founded Kwik Kopy Printing and built the Northwest Forest conference center in Cypress — the one with the full-size Alamo replica — and the Texas Senate declared a “Bud Hadfield Day” in 1993. A Texas history enthusiast to the core, his land became this park, and the Revolution-themed disc golf course fits the man about as well as any memorial could.
