Telge Park Telge Park Boardwalk Telge Park is a 111 Acre Harris County park located in Cypress, TX just northwest of Houston. Located on the northern bank of Cypress Creek, a majority of the property is a wetland habitat with abundant wildlife. At first glance the park may seem to most as a small neighborhood park. Only upon trekking through the natural surface walking trails will visitors fully appreciate its’ large size. Visitors should be aware that much of the park’s land is in the floodplain and is prone to flooding during big rain events. A TX Historical Commission sign is located on this site, marking it as the homesite of early Republic of TX settlers. How to Find Telge Park The park is located at 12400 Pleasant Grove Road, just off Telge Rd at the entrance to the subdivision of Enchanted Valley. It is about a 2 mile drive north of US 290, approximately 5 miles west of FM 1960. The parks’ 111 Acres run along the northern edge of Cypress Creek. Link to Park Website/Map Telge Park Features Telge Park Playground In addition to the natural setting of the densely wooded acreage, the park boasts picnic areas, a paved walk, a playground and restrooms. One picnic area is covered, however, the entire park is shaded by well established trees. A cleared and well maintained area is the perfect setting for setting up a volleyball net, frisbee, spreading a blanket or just letting the kids/dogs run. The main 0.75 mile nature trail is reported to have been made by a boy scout troop, but several less marked trails branch off and even wind down to the creek where fishing is allowed. The main amenities are fenced off from the park’s small parking lot and adjacent street, keeping little ones from roaming into traffic. Street parking is also available along Pleasant Grove Rd. How to Find Cypress Park The park is located at 12925 N Eldridge Parkway about halfway between Cypress North Houston Rd and Grant Rd. The park is approximately 4 miles north of US 290 and 3 miles west of US 249 (Tomball Parkway). The park is bordered by Little Cypress Creek (and Maxwell Park) to the west, Cypress Creek to the south and residential neighborhoods to the north. At the park’s entrance off N Eldridge there is a parking lot, picnic tables, a restroom, a playground and shade canopies. The park is approximately 3 miles south of US 290, 5 miles east of The Grand Parkway and 3 miles west of Hwy 6. Along the trail, visitors will find exercise stations, shaded picnic areas, a playground, 2 dog parks and 2 restrooms (one at each of the 2 parking lots). One of the 2 gated dog park areas is reserved for smaller dogs, 20 lbs and under. Both dog park areas include access to the lake for canine swimming and a shared “dog wash” facility. The well patrolled park is a popular fishing destination. Please note that the park closes at dusk at which time officers clear the area and lock the parking lot gates. How to Find Bear Creek Park Bear Creek Baseball Fields Harris County’s Bear Creek Park is located at 3535 War Memorial Dr between State Hwy 6 & North Eldridge Parkway just to the south of Clay Rd, approximately 2 miles west of Beltway 8 and 2 ½ miles north of I-10. There are 3 entrances off Clay Rd on the north side of the park and 1 entrance off North Eldridge on the east side of the park. Visitors can also access the park, Houston Farm & Ranch Club and Harris County Community Center from Hwy 6 on the west side via Patterson Rd. Link to Park Map Bear Creek Park Features Bear Creek Park Pavilion Visitors can enjoy plenty of free space with picnic tables galore!!! Additionally, Harris County allows reservations to be made to use any of the 8 pavilions. While there is no reservation cost, a refundable deposit is required. Restrooms are located throughout the park, although not along the equestrian & nature trails on the west side of the park. The east side of the park is something of a sports complex with numerous soccer fields, baseball & softball fields, tennis courts and horseshoe courts. Various sports clubs maintain these facilities and permission is needed prior to their use. The wildlife habitat and aviary (sometimes referred to as “Bear Creek Park Zoo”) houses rescued & rehabilitating animals of various sizes. The “zoo” is perfect for all ages, particularly smaller children as a playground is located just across War Memorial Dr. Visitors should be aware that the park is subject to flooding at any time. The park is part of a federally owned reservoir and it is the priority of the Army Corps of Engineers to impound water when necessary. Parking and restroom facilities are shared by both the dog parks and the adjacent skate park. The entrance to the parking lot is almost directly across from the Houston Farm & Ranch/Bear Creek Community Center/Bear Creek Park Property. Link to Park Map Congressman Bill Archer Park Dog Washing Station Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park Features Visitors & their canine companions can enjoy two enclosed parks, one for large (over 20 lbs) and one for small dogs. Each has a large bone-shaped cement pond for swimming. The large dog area includes a .81 mile walking trail loop. The small dog area includes a .29 mile walking trail loop. Both areas have plenty of open space, their own dog playground (“agility course”) and numerous sitting benches (4 of which are covered). While your dog(s) will likely get pretty dirty, you’ll be well advised to bring shampoo and towels to make use of the wash stations located just outside the dog area gates. Completely separate from the dog park areas, the parking lot is shared by a skate park, including metal ramps, rails, pads and a quarter pipe. The skate park is free to use, but unsupervised.
