Every Friday I round up the best things to do in Katy this weekend so you don’t have to dig through five different calendars to make a plan. This is the weekend of September 11–13, 2026. It opens on a day a lot of us pause to remember — September 11 — and then settles into one of the better lineups Central Green has put together all year: a Jimmy Buffett tribute under the lights Friday, an authentic flamenco company Saturday night, and the whole thing bookended by a downtown festival kickoff with a mechanical bull and Texas country. Add a library book sale, a community celebration, and a Sunday farmers market, and the west side is keeping you busy.
Weekend of September 11–13, 2026
Friday’s Yoga on the Green at Central Green Park (Friday morning). Yoga on the Green is free on the Central Green lawn at 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd, with classes at 8:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Samantha Walker is a 500-hour certified instructor who has been teaching around Houston since 2012, and she keeps the sessions approachable, so you don’t need any experience to join. Bring a mat, a towel, and water; September mornings out here are still warm. Check the doctor’s-note reminder on the event page before you go.
Parrothead Radio, a Jimmy Buffett tribute, at Central Green (Friday night). This is my pick to start the weekend. Parrothead Radio brings the Gulf Coast’s Buffett tribute set to the Central Green lawn Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and it’s free and family-friendly. Pull out the Hawaiian shirt, pack a blanket and lawn chairs, and grab dinner at one of the LaCenterra spots a short walk away. The lawn fills up fast on concert nights, so get there a little early, and the park asks you to leave glass, alcohol, balls, and pets at home.
Spectrum Star Festival at Central Green (Saturday midday). Presented by ARISE FIT, the Spectrum Star Festival runs Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the lawn. It’s a free community celebration built around teens on the autism spectrum, with a live DJ, crafts, and games, and it’s open to everyone. If you’ve got kids of any age, it’s a warm, easy couple of hours and a nice reason to be out before the afternoon heat.
Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library Book Sale (Saturday). The Friends book sale runs 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the meeting room at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd. You’ll find books, DVDs, and CDs — new releases, fiction, nonfiction, children’s titles, and classics — at prices that make it easy to leave with a stack. Proceeds fund youth and adult programming at the branch, so it’s a good way to support the library while you restock the nightstand.
Solero Flamenco at Central Green (Saturday night). Solero Flamenco, Houston’s premier flamenco company, takes the Central Green stage Saturday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Founded by singer and choreographer Irma “La Paloma” and guitarist Jeremy García, the show pairs live singing, guitar, and dance into something genuinely different from the usual lawn concert. It’s free and open to the public — bring chairs and a blanket and settle in for a proper evening.
Boots & Brews in Historic Downtown Katy (Saturday night). Over in the old town square at 904 Avenue C, Boots & Brews kicks off the 2026 Katy Rice Harvest Festival season Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Headlining is Hayden Baker, recently named the Texas Country Music Association’s Musician and Guitarist of the Year, with brewery samples, a mechanical bull, and dancing under the lights. It’s an adults-oriented evening with beer sampling, and proceeds support scholarships through the festival and the Rotary Club of Katy — check the event page for ticket details before you head out.
Farmers Market at LaCenterra (Sunday). The farmers market sets up in Heritage Square Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with local growers and makers selling fresh produce, baked goods, and homemade items. It’s a painless way to stock the fridge and still have most of the afternoon left over.
Always a good time in Katy
A few places out here hold up on any weekend. Mary Jo Peckham Park is the one I mention most: 32 acres north of Old Town Katy with a fishing lake stocked by Texas Parks & Wildlife, a three-story playground, and mini golf and an indoor pool that cost nothing to use. Families new to the area are consistently surprised it isn’t a paid attraction. If you’re an early riser, Paul Rushing Park out on Katy Hockley Road is 232 acres of prairie built around the Chain of Lakes, with 2.83 miles of asphalt trail and some of the best birding in west Harris County before the sun gets serious. And if the forecast turns, Katy Mills next to the Grand Parkway is the reliable rainy-afternoon fallback.
